Going to the doctor has never been a top priority for many people. Like the dentist, however, it’s important to have regular check-ups with your doctor. While symptoms and diagnosis may be different from one patient to another, one thing is certain: nobody wants to be unhealthy. Two fundamental goals to work toward are prevention and treatment. It is important to detect early warning signs of potentially fatal ailments such as high blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease; all of which can be exacerbated by sleep apnea or weight gain. One of the biggest fears that many of my patients face is that of the unknown. They come into my office completely unaware of the factors that cause their ailments and are not informed of the warning signs that may indicate future problems. My time with them allows me to help clarify any confusion, and lay out the proper course of action. Many people, for example, are unaware that disorders such as diabetes and sleep apnea are reversible. It requires some lifestyle changes, such as changing your eating habits and a commitment to a regular exercise and weight loss schedule, but it is certainly worth whatever sacrifices have to be made. Starting treatment as soon as possible is crucial, but the satisfaction my patients experience when they see results is very rewarding. It is very important for me to develop a trusting relationship with my patients where they know they can rely on me to help make them feel better. Working with the patient I can provide the tools and my patients provide the drive and enthusiasm to make their lives healthier and happier. Dr. Avi
