Frequently, patients come to their first dietitian visit with only one goal in mind: "I want to lose weight right now!" Throughout the course of our meetings, we work with patients to identify and understand their personal goals and reasons for wanting to lose weight. Some people are motivated by medical reasons while others just need to regain control of their lives. I often hear stories from patients about how they didn’t notice they had been gaining so much weight. Work or school became so stressful or time consuming that the extra fifteen pounds just suddenly appeared one day. It 's common today for people to lose track of the food they eat. Your may be forfeiting healthy habits for the sake of life’s other responsibilities, not even realizing the repercussions until there is an unpleasant reminder like needing to buy bigger pants. Most people just need to be reminded that they deserve to make their health a priority. Losing weight is a very personal achievement. Having worked with so many patients over the years, I can customize a program that suits each patient's abilities and needs. For one patients, just getting them to reduce their coke intake is a challenge while for another, they've got to see some significant weight loss in the first week to create the motivation.
