What It’s Like to Sleep in a Sleep Lab

Tue, 2009-07-07 04:13

Very few people actually know what a sleep apnea clinic is and what it consists of. Our sleep lab in Los Angeles is quite warm and inviting. The big comfortable couches and chairs in the front entrance, combined with the room’s earth tones, immediately give the feeling that you are walking into someone’s home.

Upon arriving at the sleep clinic, patients are greeted by one of our technicians. Patients each have their own private bedroom with a comfortable queen-sized bed. The technicians detail the procedure for the night and each piece of equipment’s purpose. Our patients tend to find the monitoring equipment most amusing because various leads are placed around the head and body. Not to worry though, all patients are shown how to easily detach themselves from the monitoring unit should the urge to go to the restroom or water cooler strike in the middle of the night. Once set-up is complete, patients are free to go to sleep. 6 hours of recorded sleep time is ideal for a sleep study and we encourage patients to follow their usual nightly habits if they find it difficult to fall asleep.

Our patients find themselves pleasantly surprised by their experience in our sleep lab. The rooms are cozy and the facility itself is quiet at night. Our technicians work hard every night to ensure that each of our patients feel calm and secure, as though they were sleeping in their own bed in the comfort of their own home. We are currently working on opening up more sleep apnea clinics around Southern California.
