What is MDHSP?

On this page:

A Simplified Way to Treat Sleep Apnea

As the obesity epidemic continues to surge globally, healthcare providers are preparing to treat obesity and one of its principal comorbidities-obstructive sleep apnea.

It is estimated that at least 20 million Americans suffer from moderate-to-severe sleep apnea and yet only 10-20% are being treated (Young et al. 2002, 1997). The healthcare industry is in dire need of an efficient, simple way to identify and treat sleep apnea sufferers. The MD Home Sleep Program or MDHSP is that solution. MDHSP is the bridge that connects sleep apnea sufferers, physicians, and state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment tools and services.

MDHSP was designed for the convenience of physicians and dentists.

  • Prescribe a home sleep test. Using our proprietary software, physicians prescribe home sleep tests from their laptop or cell phone with the click of a button.
  • Aviisha steps in. Aviisha takes over, absorbing all logistical responsibilities including shipping, scoring, technical support, and billing.
  • Test results transmitted. The test results and recommendations are then made available for the physician online.
  • Prescribe APAP. Physicians prescribe APAP therapy just as easily and track the progress of their orders online.
  • Compliance. Aviisha also manages patients' compliance with treatment together with you.

There are no fees to sign-up or participate in the program. MDHSP makes treating sleep apnea simple and affordable and lets physicians earn considerable income while doing so. We are the only national company that provides all-encompassing services with minimal demands on the part of the medical professional.

An Easy Way to Evaluate, Diagnose, and Treat OSA Patients

The MD Home Sleep Program can be broken into 4 stages.

  1. Sign up and Activation Fill out the form here (or call us) and an administrator will contact you to tell you about the program. Once the documentation is signed, you will receive our OSA evaluation tools and forms to give patients. You will also receive a personalized link which enables you to prescribe home sleep tests and APAP via our secured website. There is no fee to sign up or activate.
  2. Evaluation You can use the evaluation tools provided to help screen your patients for OSA. When you identify a patient at high risk for OSA (excessive daytime sleepiness, hypertension, obesity, loud snoring, etc.), login to your MDHSP account and prescribe a home sleep test (HST) by entering the patient's first and last name and clicking prescribe. The clinic will complete the order information online and upload or fax the patient's documentation. After verifying insurance, Aviisha will ship and score the test and provide technical support. After the test is scored, you receive a report with the results and diagnostic recommendation. You can bill for all in-network or out-of-network services yourself or have Aviisha bill for your out-of-network services.
  3. Diagnosis Patient who test positive of obstructive sleep apnea can be prescribed APAP using the same simple procedures outlined above for the HST.
  4. Compliance Aviisha generates quarterly compliance reports and shares them with you and your patient. You can make quarterly compliance calls to the patient and bill for them.

Which Patients are Accepted?

MDHSP is available for all patients

  • Out-of-network (preferred)
  • Cash patients
  • In-network
  • Medicare (reimbursement allowed for HST only)

You can choose to have Aviisha bill on your behalf for out-of-network patients.

Which Equipment is Used?

Alice PDx Diagnostic System

Alice PDx is a diagnostic device for the portable screening, flow-up and diagnosis of cardio-respiratory sleep disorders to be used by sleep labs, office-based doctors and home care providers. It satisfies International portable testing requirements (for eg. A.A.S.M. levels II, III and IV) and provides capabilities of basic screening to advanced diagnostic evaluation. The Alice PDx enables patients to be tested outside of the lab without compromising study results and helps clinicians avoid the costs associated with retesting.

System One REMstar Auto CPAP Machine with A-Flex

The System One REMstar Auto CPAP Machine with A-Flex customizes itself to the patient's needs. The Auto Algorithm recognizes individual, fluctuating needs and adjusts the delivered pressure only when needed. System One Resistance Control allows the patient to tell the machine which mask is being used so that it can calculate expected leak rates. As a result, the machine avoids unnecessary increases in pressure. A-Flex technology also permits each user to choose how much resistance or relief is delivered.

The Auto-CPAP (or "APAP") has three different ways to communicate vital data with Aviisha's therapy management software, allowing patients to participate in their own treatment.

  1. Wired Modern - plugs directly into your home phone line and sends data in real time. All devices come with a wired modern installed.
  2. Wireless Modern - for those who don't have a phone line at home and wish to utilize wireless technology.
  3. SD Card - the data is collected on the device's SD memory card then mailed or brought into Aviisha's office periodically for download. While the SD card is in transit, data is stored on the device so nothing is lost.
