Dr. Avi Ishaaya is the director of the Aviisha Sleep Well program as well as the co-founder and medical director of the Institute. A pioneer in the area of sleep therapy, and an expert on the role sleep plays in relationship to overall health, Dr. Avi’s approach to wellness is tailored to the specific needs of each patient. Applying knowledge from a variety of medical specialties, Dr. Avi provides his patients a combination of expertise and empathy, a result of extensive medical training and research, as well as personal experience with the challenges his patients face.
Dr. Avi academic success enabled him to enter UCLA at age sixteen, and medical school at the University of Maryland at age 19. Upon graduation from medical school, he returned to Los Angeles to practice medicine at the age of 22. His work in the area of sleep disorders and sleep therapy began in 1996 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he served as assistant director of the hospital’s sleep disorders clinic. He subsequently directed the Century City Hospital Sleep Lab and the Brotman Medical Center Sleep Lab. Having founded the Aviisha Medical Wellness Center in Los Angeles, he quickly expanded to Thousand Oaks and an additional facility is scheduled to open in San Bernardino County in 2010.
Dr. Avi's patients appreciate the comprehensive, individually-tailored programs that focus on overall health and wellness, and combine extensive testing (including testing for sleep apnea and other sleep disorders), medical treatment, and nutritional counseling.
Dr. Avi is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, sleep medicine and geriatrics. In addition to serving as the Medical Director of the Aviisha Medical Wellness Institute, he is Director of Respiratory Therapy at Midway Hospital, Medical Director of Country Villa Health System, and an Assistant Clinical Professor at the UCLA School of Medicine. He also continues to teach at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s sleep disorders clinic. Fluent in four languages- English, Hebrew, Russian and Spanish, Dr. Ishaaya lives in Los Angeles with his wife and four children.
